A Roy Lichtenstein masterpiece, Mirror #5, from the collection of philanthropist and arts patron Agnes Gund will be a highlight at Christie’s sale of 20th-century art this evening in New York.
A portion of the proceeds from this sale—estimated between US$3.5 million and US$5.5 million—will benefit Groundswell Fund, a women-of-color-led organization in the U.S. that supports the reproductive justice movement. Another unspecified portion will be donated to YWCA of Kalamazoo, Mich., which aims to provide voter education on reproductive rights on election day, Nov. 8.
“With the rising tide of legal challenges that undermine basic reproductive rights and criminalize women—most particularly the poor, people of color, and young or vulnerable women—the efforts of Groundswell Fund and YWCA of Kalamazoo allow us to rebuild a future of equity and justice,” Gund said in a statement through Christie’s.
